Lita “Dolly” Sawyer Conner passed away peacefully at home Monday, August 28, 2017.
Born December 1, 1931, in Point Harbor, NC, Dolly was the daughter of the late Gwendolyn Sowers and Walter Scott Sawyer. She grew up in Powells Point Christian Church. Dolly came to Southside, VA, made her home and reared her family.
For more than 20 years, Dolly worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. She will be remembered as a loving, beloved wife, and devoted mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for being a great cook, and for her out-going personality, generous spirit and “gift of gab”. Last, but not least, Dolly was passionate and frequently visited the casinos locally and in Vegas.
In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Frank Conner. She is survived by her daughter, Storm Knight and her husband, David Knight; her son, Darron Conner and his wife, Anne Conner; grandchildren, Matthew Knight, Jeffrey Knight, Anne Mills Conner and Davis Conner; a brother, Russell Sawyer and his wife, Margie; and a host of extended family and friends, all of whom will cherish her memory.
Family and friends will gather 4:30-6:00 pm, Friday, September 1, 2016 in Smithfield Baptist Church, followed by a service at 6:00 pm celebrating Dolly’s life with Rev. Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. A reception will follow in the church family life center. A graveside committal service will take place 4:00 pm, Saturday, September 2, in Powells Point Christian Church Cemetery, NC.
