James Washington Tolley, 64, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017. Born in Hampton, he was the son of the late George W. and Mable Markam Tolley. He grew up in the area of the Cummings Farm on the grounds where Parklawn Memorial Park is now located. He had lived in Smithfield for the past 20 years. He was a lead gas line technician with Ross and Sons supervising many.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Tolley. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Brenda Gaye Tolley; his niece, Roseann Morris McCook, and her children, Eddie Christopher McCook, Aliah Marie McCook, and Kayleann Marie McCook; his brother-in-law, Robin Earl Morris; and a host of extended family and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11 am, Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, in Parklawn Memorial Park with Rev. Will McCarty officiating.
James cherished his wife and family. A man of God and having faith, James was a member of Healing Waters Worship Center, Carrollton. He was an avid deer hunter and nature lover. Many days he enjoyed a walk at Nike Park in Isle of Wight County with his ice cream in hand. At home, James enjoyed watching TV programs like Andy Griffin and Gun Smoke.
